About the Mercury Phoenix Trust

The Mercury Phoenix Trust was set up in memory of Freddie Mercury, the charismatic lead singer of Queen, who died of AIDS related causes in 1991. Since then, the Trust has focused its policy to concentrate on HIV/AIDS education and awareness programmes in the developing world and donated in excess of ten million pounds to AIDS charities worldwide. Using Freddie Mercury’s name, magic and music the Mercury Phoenix Trust works to keep awareness of the AIDS pandemic in people’s minds. In total over 60 million people have been infected, 25 million have died and there are 16.6 million AIDS orphans. The battle is still on.
